General News
Bay Village Resort News
2004 will see some major redevelopment at Bay Village
Resort. This wont interfere with the January holiday
festivities, however mini golf will not be available,
and there will only be 1 half court tennis court. Please
bring your own rackets and balls for convenience,
alternatively the site office is manned after 5pm. We
apologise for any inconvenience, however the changes will
be worth it! More on the redevelopment in the New Year.
The volleyball court, indoor pool, spa and saunas remain
unaffected. The on site restaurant is also undergoing a
change and this is temporarily closed until further
notice.

converted to grape growing and wine making. There are 6 hectares of
vineyard, all of which will be in production by 2003, but with plans
to extend the plantings to 20 hectares in the years ahead (the

WHALE WATCHING - With Naturaliste Charters
"Thar she blows!"
Fortunately when we
hear that cry these days in Australian waters the only
equipment aimed at the whale is the camera! It is a
fantastic sight to behold when a whale breathes out like
this. The ‘blow’ is a mixture of air and water that can
be seen from over a kilometre away as it rises in excess
of 4 metres. If you are close enough you will also hear
a loud roar as the air and water are forced out of the
whale under great pressure. There are lots of Humpback
Calves at the moment
– looks like the calves are slowing the mothers down as
they head back to the cool waters of the Antarctic Ocean
for the summer. They are just lolling about in the calm
waters of Geographe Bay and having a bit of fun. The
mighty Blue Whale is still present in good numbers,
indicating a steadily growing population. Our friendly
Humpbacks have been active recently, entertaining our
passengers with some fantastic antics -perfect for photo
opportunities!

FISHING By Damian Lane, Dunsborough Outdoor
Sports and Hire
Low swell,
light winds and clear sky’s are all the go at the moment
and with the Christmas crowds yet to hit, it’s an
excellent time for anglers to hit the water.
The West Coast beaches are fishing well of late with
just after dark producing some quality tailor and the
occasional mulloway or small shark. There are plenty of
smaller species on offer as well with skippy, tarwhine,
flathead, flounder, herring and gardies all being
caught.
Boats have done quite well out wide on the West Coast
with Dhuies, pinkies and queenies gracing most boats
bags. In close has worked for some boats but the
majority are doing better a little further from shore.
Crabs are in numbers during the past week with divers,
drop netters and those walking the shore all producing
the goods.
Whilst reports from Bunbury sound like there are plenty
of crays further up the coast, the Cape Region is still
a little light on in cray numbers. Scuba, free divers
and cray potters are all reporting mediocre catches. I
expect it to get better in a week or so.
Late last week local fisho “Mick”managed a 14kg Dhu on a
lumo soft plastic on his first drop."Nice Fish”.
