It seems summer is finally here. Besides a couple of thundery days, the sun has been blazing down and the fish have been turning it on, especially deep sea.

A couple of local anglers have had some brilliant days out in the Bay, drifting for dhuies, pinkies, queenies etc. On Saturday I weighed a 16.5kg dhuie caught on a first drift.
The storm plastics have been very effective out in the Bay and around the Cape. Some local guys managed an icebox full of great fish including some good size dhuies all caught using Storm Wildeye swim baits in the 6” size. The most effective colours being mullet, pinfish, sardine and bunker.

With the crayfish season well upon us, it isn’t surprising that we’ve had many reports of good catches. So far we have had seven jumbo’s entered into the stores “crayfish of the month competition”. The largest being 3.686kg, taken by Richie Myers off the Cape.

The Quindalup foreshore has had some good schools of sandwhiting patrolling the shallows of late, the early morning is best time to get a few at present. Fish Rock near the Boat Ramp in Old Dunsborough has also been one of the more consistent spots recently with local junior anglers catching tailor to 2kg and mulloway to 5kg in the early evening last week.

Crabs are in good numbers in the Quindalup/Tobys Inlet areas with some meaty blues amongst them, late afternoon

Busselton Jetty, Glass Bottom View Charter - Vessel Escape II

SPECIAL CHARTERS

Our Glass Bottom View Vessel - Escape II can take up to 30 passengers with 2 crew. On both tours we can supply fins and masks for the ones who would like to do some snorkelling. We do allow liquor & food aboard but any water activity must be done before drinking alcohol. Please note we allow no glass on board but wine bottles are ok, so plastic glass are required and cans for beer & soft drink. We also can arrange to have a B-B-Q on board. We are fully surveyed for sunset tours and arriving back in the dark.

Tour one: 2hr duration dose around Busselton jetty, port Geographe and along coast line. Cost is $850.00 if you have 30 people this is $28.33 per head.

Tour two: 4hr duration this dose all the above as well as touring towards Peppy beach an moor up in a bay if required. Cost is $1,400 if you have 30 people this is $46.66 per head.  Extra time on tour: If wishing more time on vessel than 4hrs every hr there on is $200.00 extra   Departure From:- Port Geographe Marina  Departure times; If pre booked departure time can be pre set to suit your schedule. Robert Parker's review of Three Hills Shiraz in 'The Wine Advocate' released October 25th 2002

'THREE HILLS 1999 SHIRAZ - MARGARET RIVER - ($37.00) - RED - 95 points
Sadly, there are only 300 cases of what may be the finest Shiraz I have ever tasted from Western Australia. The debut release from proprietor Erl Happ (who is worried Americans "may have to thin this wine with water"). This 1999 is from a young vineyard planted in a southern portion of Margaret River known as Karridale. Aging in large foudres rather than small barriques resulted in minimal oak characteristics. An opaque purple color is followed by sweet, complex aromas of white flowers, blackberry liqueur, smoke, campher, and a hint of rosemary. The wine possesses an unctuous texture, terrific fruit purity, an extraordinary palate presence and incredible balance despite its lofty 15.4% alcohol (all concealed behind the wealth of fruit, glycerin, and extract). This compelling Shiraz suggests magnificent wines from this varietal can be made in Western Australia. Anticipated maturity: now-2014. SHITAKI NOODLE BAR -opening Saturday Dec 14 at 26 Dunn Bay Road, Dunsborough at Bay Village Resort. Louise Durham formerly of Cafe Laguna Yallingup & Rebecca Anderson will be bringing a fresh taste of Asia to the Dunsborough dine out scene at the SHITAKI NOODLE BAR (next to Bay Dive) for breakfast and dinner Tues-Sun.

Shitaki is owned and ran by Louise & Rebecca both being local chiefs in the region. They both have a very good repour in the region for their fresh and new innovated stile of cooking and presentation. They will be fully opened by 14th December.
