Broadwater
Resorts Festival of Triathlon May 04
The 2004 Broadwater Resorts Festival of Triathlon
was a HUGE success attracting record numbers of
competitors – a total of 1079 competitors
registered. Competitor numbers increased on 2003 by
29% for the short course event and 27% for the Half
Ironman Event. The festival also attracted over 70
interstate and international competitors. Support
from the local community was also tremendous. Over
200 locals volunteered to assist in the Pro
Busselton sponsored Volunteer Program on the
Saturday. The CNTA co-ordinated the volunteer
program. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped
make such an event a great success. For future event

Mastercard First
International Wine Tourism Conference
Margaret River hosted the First MasterCard
International Wine Tourism Conference in early May
and the event has been proclaimed a great success.
Delegates and speakers travelled to MR from 14 of
the world's primary wine tourism countries to be
enlightened with the latest market and regional
intelligence from the $15 billion global industry.
The conference, an initiative of the Augusta
margaret River Tourist Bureau, ran from
2-5 May and was attended by 260 delegates. The event
gave the region an opportunity to showcase its many
attractions including premium wineries, fine
restaurants and world-class arts and crafts. A
distinguished array of speakers and delegates were
suitably impressed with the regional effort, which
was officially opened by the Hon. Mark Vaile,
Minister for Trade. "The conference was an
outstanding example of how successful and
informative such a congress can be," said Conference
Convener and former CEO of the Australian Tourist
Commission Mr John Morse. "Margaret River excelled
by delivering a unique experience for delegates not
just from Australia, but around the world.
Bay Village Resort News
We expect the redevelopment to
commence any day now -as always a few delays but we hope
to be building very soon. The redevelopment will
encompass new units, including some "Overnighters", a
day spa, new children's playground with shade cover (and
whilst this is in progress there is still the playground
available just a 200 meter walk down on the foreshore),
a new reception area, new barbeque facilities and an
area for bocce! The cafe and pool area will also undergo
a face-lift, but not for a few months yet, and will have
a whole new look for summer 04/05. We apologise for any
inconvenience, but existing units are really not
affected. please don't hesitate to contact us for
further information on the development to

Its that time of the
year for "Whale watching"
The great whales have begun returning to Flinders Bay
and the whale watching season will soon be in full swing
in Augusta,
and within 2-3 months Dunsborough.
The whales return to the area annually. In late May the
Humpbacks and Southern right whale are sighted in
Flinders Bay having left the freezing Antarctic waters
for breeding and mating in warmer waters off our coast.
On arrival in the area the whales are filled with
curiosity and pay considerable attention to whale
watchers. On many occasions they will swim only metres
from the boat, delighting both passengers and crew. At
other times they can be seen breaching and playing in
the shallows. Due to the region's geographical location
it offers a six-month season, allowing viewing of these
majestic creatures on both their northern and southern
migration routes. Therefore whales can be seen in
the area from late May through to October.

FISHING By Damian Lane, Dunsborough Outdoor
Sports and Hire
Fishing
activity slowed over the past week mainly due to the
weather conditions which were quite squally and wet.
Anglers that have ventured out have been catching pink
snapper, skippy and big sambo’s. Most of this has been
happening in the Bay, as the swell on the West Coast has
limited the opportunities to get out.
One of Dunsborough Police officers had an interesting
day 5 miles of Dunsborough earlier in this week, when a
5 metre great white started mouthing his outboard motor
and shaking his boat, he vacated the area quickly!
Squid were another species that picked up in numbers
over the weed banks, in front of Dunsborough is the
place to be, blue jigs working well.
There are plenty of pilch and herring in the Meelup
through to the Cape area. Tailor have been a little hit
and miss of late but size has been good when they do
come on.
