Underwater
Observatory a Huge Success
–
Visitor numbers
to the new Busselton Jetty Underwater Observatory
continue to surpass all expectations. In the past 15
weeks of operation, more than 44,400
tourists have
experienced the Jetty’s stunning underwater spectacle
from the Underwater Observatory. Why not come and
spend a few days at Bay Village Resort and soak up the
last of the balmy Autumn weather with one of our great
'getaway' specials. Its still perfect for diving as
well, and Bay Dive are on site at the resort to
assist.
Broadwater Resorts Busselton
Festival of Triathlon - 2004 will be the
third time the event has been held in Busselton. In
2003, the event won the inaugural Community Event
Award at the Sport and Recreation Industry Awards for
its commitment towards developing an event that all
the community can get involved in, whether as a
competitor, a volunteer or a spectator.
The feature race of the Festival is the Broadwater
Resorts Half Ironman Triathlon which doubles as the WA
Long Course State Championship. This race comprises a
1.9km swim, followed by a 90.1km cycle and 21.1km run.
The race is the premier event of the Triathlon WA
competition calendar and in previous years has
attracted nearly 400 competitors racing as
individuals. As well as attracting elite triathletes
who compete to be overall open male and female
champions, the race also recognises age group
categories starting at 18 years, up to 70+ years for
both males and females. The race is a qualifying event
for the Australian Ironman Triathlon Championship held
annually at Forster in NSW. In 2004, the accompanying
“sprint” triathlon race will comprise a 400m swim, a
14km cycle and a 4km run. This event is one for all
novice competitors, no matter how inexperienced. The
event will be held before the main race, so you can
compete yourself, then settle back to watch the long
course competitors in action. Both events are open to
individuals and teams.

Industry Elder Hangs Up His Hat
Moss Brothers recently announced the appointment of
their new CEO, Mark Buck. Mark has taken over from
much loved founder and patriarch, Jeff Moss, who with
his family established Moss Brothers in1984. While
Jeff has vowed to take that long anticipated back
seat, and capitalize on his reduced work-load to enjoy
life in the beautiful surrounds of the Busselton-Margaret
River area, he will continue to service some of their
major accounts.
Bay Village Resort News
"Please

undergoing a "face-lift" and will have a whole new
look for summer 04/05.

From Steve, Terry & Crew
FISHING By Damian Lane, Dunsborough Outdoor
Sports and Hire
We’ve had
another awesome week down this way. Over the past week
salmon, tailor, skippy and mulloway have all been active
and a few days of low swell have made the northern
beaches on the west coast an attractive option for
belting lures or mulies out into reef holes, gutters and
rips.
Tailor have been regular after dark in Bunkers Bay
towards the end of the week, salmon are in this area
frequently as well.
Some nice Pinkies have been caught off Yallingup of late
amongst the thick skippy schools and have heard a
whisper that some have been taken from shore around
Canal Rocks area over the past fortnight. The past
couple of salmon seasons have seen a pinkie or two come
off the beach at Yallingup from amongst the salmon
schools.
After a fair bit of on / off trying to take a black
bream on lure out on Tobys Inlet (Bait has been okay) it
took a trip with my mate Andrew Natta to show me how its
done when we paddled my canoe down to the mouth last
weekend.
I have also heard a rumour of a wahoo being caught off
Eagle Bay but it is unconfirmed at present.
Big swell is expected this weekend which means most of
the beach based fishing will be around in the Bay side.
Spots that will have salmon passing through will be
Rocky Point, Castle Rock, Eagle Bay and the beaches in
between.
Squid have been active of late but size is still fairly
small in the main, crab scooping and cobblering has been
popular on windless nights along the Dunsborough
foreshore.

What To Do
& See
Voyager Estate Cape Malay Easter Weekend 2004
The Easter weekend is
regarded as one of the best times of the year to visit
Voyager Estate with its traditional Cape Malay food
festival running Saturday and Sunday [closed Good
Friday] . Since opening its cellar door in 1998
Voyager Estate has created an environment where wine
and food of the highest quality can be enjoyed in an
atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
Voyager
Estate pays tribute to the Cape Malay people who
contributed so much to the rich heritage of the Cape,
by presenting this exciting style of cuisine for your
enjoyment.
This cuisine
is a marriage of cultures, bringing sweet and savoury
together backed by a touch of spice. Dishes include
Prawn Breyani (semi dry dish of fragrant rice,
infused spices with prawns and and shell fish),
Tomato and Beef Bredie (slow simmered stew with an
array of spices), and Bobotie (baked mince,
sultanas, chutney, curry and white sauce.
The Easter
weekend also coincides with opening of the new
gardens. After three years of construction, protective
hoardings surrounding the underground barrel cellar
come down to reveal a continuation of the werf garden
and the addition of reflective ponds. Boulles and
croquet sets are available from the Cellar Door for
guests wishing to enjoy the manicured lawns and
stunning views over the vineyards and surrounding
Karri forests.
Weather
permitting, outdoor dining sitting under the Autumn
vines or a late afternoon coffee and cake are
available on the Stoep.

Featured Winery:
Lauren Brook Winery
Established in 1993
by Stephen and Laurie Bullied
on the banks of the Blackwood River, Lauren Brook Winery
is located on the homestead block of a lovely and
historic Bridgetown property. This small boutique winery
concentrates on producing small volumes of handcrafted
wines for sale predominantly by cellar door and mail

A few high-quality restaurants have also been selected
to showcase the wines. Lauren Brook has had considerable
success in proving the potential of the new Blackwood
Valley wine region for producing excellent wines - with
the winery reaching award status at wine shows every
year its wines have been shown.
Decanter
magazine, Feb 2003, in a tasting of 86
Western Australian Cabernet Sauvignons in which Lauren
Brook was awarded Four Stars, described
their 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon
( 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. 32 months in French
Oak), as: "Attractive cedar and smoke overtones.
Inviting. Well-constructed wine. Firm tannins now which
support deep, complex fruit ensuring a good future."
