From Steve, Terry & Crew
FISHING By Damian Lane, Dunsborough Outdoor
Sports and Hire
King george have been
fairly active in and around the Quindalup area though
size has not been at all big. Crabs have been on
throughout the Quindalup Siesta Park area.
Boat fishing on the West Coast has been a little hot and
cold during the last week. Some of the boats drifting
have taken some nice 10kg dhu’s in the Indijup area not
far from shore, occy being the bait that stands out.
Local young spearo’s had a small mako shark taking fish
from their float line yesterday not far off Dunsborough.
Better to be taking fish off your float than taking fish
out of a catch bag on your leg.
Skippy up to 2 kgs have been taken from the local
beaches in the early evening along with some good tailor
around 1.5kg.
A schoolie mulloway or two up to 70cm has come from the
sand gutters in between the YHA and Elmore Rd.
There are plenty of baitfish in the Bay at present with
schools of herring, gardies, mulies, blue sardines,
whitebait and anchovies providing a good feed for the
larger fish.
Salmon trout have been fairly consistent in the Eagle
Bay area. Bonito and (unconfirmed reports of) Southern
bluefin tuna have been spotted feeding off Eagle Bay
also.
The Warm water is still flowing past the Cape as a few
nor west blowies have been caught and seen around the
area but there are no more mackerel at present, even
though they are currently off Rockingham.

SCUBA DIVING
with Bay Dive (Swan Ship Wreck Charters)
With the water temperature and visibility having picked
up over the last few weeks we have had some excellent
diving. Our Custom dive vessel ‘Escape’ has been fitted
with brand new motors, providing a much quieter more
comfortable ride for all our guests. Over the past month
we have certified lots of new divers and introduced
others to the benefits of Nitrox diving – extending
their bottom times to increase their enjoyment of the
Swan Wreck.
We are now proud sponsors of the underwater observatory
in Busselton and offering people the chance to see
outside with our ½ day Discover Scuba Diving program. It
has given many of you the chance to experience the
underwater world without taking up all of you holiday
time.
We are now able to offer some of our course on Barter
Card as well as continuing to offer Swan Wreck Dives &
Busselton Jetty dives through Barter.

Featured Winery:
Howard
Park Wines & Madfish Wines
The simple ethos of Howard Park has always been one of
uncompromising quality wine production. Wines bearing
the Howard Park label express the very finest fruit
grown in the premier regions of Margaret River and the
Great Southern. Only Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet
Sauvignon/Merlot are produced. These wines are of great
subtlety, character and elegance which have a
demonstrated and proven history of rewarding ageing with
increased complexity and interest. The Howard Park wines
are of international standing and have shown a
consistency of style and quality which is the hallmark
of great wines. Winemaker: Michael Kerrigan must feel
suitably rewarded with the following accolades!
1-January-2004
- Tyson
Stelzer has voted Howard Park Wines as the 2003
Winery of the Year in his top 500 wines of 2003.
Tyson writes, "Howard Park has gone from one strength to
another during 2003. It's relatively new regional range
under the Scotsdale and Leston labels has been more than
deserving of it's many accolades. New labels in the
family this year included an outstanding pinot noir and
a respectable sauvignon blanc. It has been the
consistency of this producer that has set it apart
throughout the year, with each of its releases
representing an impressive wine in it's own right. A
confident move into screw caps has been further evidence
of the commitment of Michael Kerrigan and his team to
producing consistent, high quality wines".
Tyson Stelzer gave Howard Park Wines the following
ratings:
Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 (screw cap) 94
points
Howard Park Chardonnay 2002 91 points
Howard Park Leston Shiraz 2001 (cork) 91 points
Howard Park Leston Shiraz 2001 (screw cap) 93 points
Howard Park Riesling 2003 90 points
Howard Park Scotsdale Pinot Noir 2002 93 points
Howard Park Scotsdale Shiraz 2001 (cork) 93 points
Howard Park Scotsdale Shiraz 2001 (screw cap) 94 points

Where To Eat:
Voyager Estate
Restaurant is now fully air-conditioned.
You can also view
artworks by Dean Vella on the walk down the hallway to
one of Margaret River's best dining experiences.
Situated at the back of the main Cellar Door building,
the restaurant is also now one of the most comfortable
places to dine in the region. Not one to do anything by
halves, owner, Michael Wright has installed a system
with a cooling capacity of some 2300 litres of air per
minute.
Many rate the Margaret River wine growing region as an
area of cool-climate viticulture. James Halliday made
mention once that the Margaret River region was "on the
outskirts of cool". We can assure you that there were
some summer days under the black roof of our Cape-Dutch
styled cellar door building when our restaurant staff
would have said "well on the outskirts - more like
sweltering". Not any more...now it's a case of cool
climate restaurant culture.
