Fishing
Frenzy
- Courtesy Ocean to Outback Busselton
It's not too bad for a fish these
days, reports Daniel from Ocean to Outback.
The jetty has yielded some nice
squid, but crabs have been quiet. Dinghy anglers have
done better with the crustaceans. There are also some
bread and butter species - herring and skippy - to be
caught. Up around the Wonnerup estuary, some black bream
have been taken.
Out in the bay on the Four Mile
Reef, pink snapper, samson fish, skippy and big pike
have been taken, while elsewhere there have been a few
king george whiting.
Boaties headed outside the
protection of the Cape can find dhuies, pink and queen
snapper and breaksea cod.
Beach anglers on the west coast
have caught nice tailor up to 3kg, while tarwhine,
skippy and some big herring are also there to be caught.
Forget the Blackwood River. The
water is too cold and dirty for any big bream action.
Have a good
weekend!

Wildflowers brighten Geographe Bay Region
Vibrant wildflowers will soon bloom in Busselton and
Dunsborough and local wildflower enthusiasts are excited
about the different species that will soon be on show in
surrounding bush land. Local wildflower enthusiast, Mr
Dennis Cooper, said the Ambergate Reserve, located about
10 kilometres from Busselton’s town centre, was a great
place to view colourful wildflowers. “Species such as
the grey blue smoke bush, boronia, wattle, red grevillea,
orchids, banksia and white myrtle will soon be on show
in this region,” Mr Cooper said. “Ambergate blocks one,
three and four will look great this season, however,
block two was burned off recently.” “Dunsborough also
has some beautiful wildflowers, including the one-sided
bottle brush, which attracts birds such as honey
eaters.” “Many of Dunsborough’s wildflowers can be
viewed from the coastal walk trails near Meelup.” “The
Cape to Cape Walk Track provides an excellent vantage
point for people to view wildflowers and tour guides at
the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse are able to provide
excellent interpretive information.” “The walk trail
around Ngilgi Cave in Yallingup, also features some
beautiful wildflowers.” “If people are prepared to move
off the beaten track, they will be amazed at some of the
beautiful wildflowers they will see.” “Some of the best
locations to view wildflowers are off Ruabon, Tutunup,
and Evans, Claymore and Ludlow Hithergreen Roads.” “I
encourage people to discover our local wildflowers, but
please respect the natural environment, resist the urge
to pick or destroy the wildflowers and watch where you
walk.” Informative brochures on the Ambergate Reserve
can be found at the Busselton Visitor Centre. For those
not wanting to travel too far, the Busselton Wildflower
Exhibition will be held at the Uniting Church, Kent
Street Busselton on September 22 – 23. There will also
be wood turning, craft exhibitions, teas, lunches,
stalls, wildflower video, displays by the Geographe
Community Nursery and the WA Water Corporation. Date:
Thursday, September 22 from 9am-6pm and Friday,
September 23 from 9am-5pm. Cost: Adults $4, Card holders
$3 and children 50 cents.

Winery:
Amberley Estate
"People have scoured the globe searching for
great winemaking regions only to find that they are few
and far between. They appear as little strips of land in
a few select countries.
Margaret River is one of them.
In the sixties, a scholar by the name of John Gladstones
wrote about the quality of the
Margaret
River region. He wrote about the similarities of
Margaret River and the great winemaking region of
Bordeaux.
He wrote about the perfect weather. 'It doesn’t send the
fruit through many extremes each day.' He wrote about
the perfect soil conditions. 'They are not too fertile
and make the vines work hard to produce that perfect
flavour.'
The
setting and region have shaped our range of wines.
Predominantly we grow the Bordeaux varieties including
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon
Blanc, Semillon with plantings of Chenin Blanc,
Shiraz
and Chardonnay. Our location gives us a considerable
advantage.
No one
can create good wine from bad fruit. But good fruit
alone doesn’t guarantee a good wine. We have to work
hard to translate our fruit into a good wine. It’s a job
we are all passionate about.
Amberley is the largest Margaret River winery to use
only fruit from our appellation. Our wines are a total
representation of our winery. They are a total
representation of our region. When you experience your
next bottle of Amberley wine you know that it was grown
in the Margaret River region. You know that it was made
with a blend of old and new winemaking techniques. And
you know that we have not bowed to the market place and
compromised quality for quantity. (Courtesy Amberley web

Vasse Felix
"At Margaret River's first
commercial vineyard you will enjoy our food as much as
our wine.
The timber and stone building
which houses the Vasse Felix restaurant is natural, warm
and welcoming in winter ~ earthy, cool and breezy in
summer. In the upstairs balcony restaurant, lunches are
served every day in a smart, casual environment that
overlooks a sweeping panorama of vines and natural
forests.
Forget the hustle and bustle.
At Vasse Felix we encourage you to sit back, relax and
enjoy the delights of our contemporary menu featuring
fresh regional cuisine - the perfect complement to our
premium wines."
