General News

Bay Village Resort News

Autumn has bought with it a 'freshness' in the mornings - perhaps a little earlier than expected, but still the days are beautiful, and perfect for pottering about in the rock pools of the bay and enjoying the last of the summer sun. The wineries have mostly completed 'vintage' and the autumn hues apparent. A number of the wineries also have some of excellent entertainment on offer. The surf has been sensational and I am informed the fishing good -please refer to Naturaliste Charter's update a little further on.

The resort re-development is making great progress with Stage 2 (7 villas - ALL SOLD), well underway. Brickwork is up to the first level on 5 villas and the last 2 pads will be poured in a week or so, so the anticipated completion of 'spring'2005 appears to be holding! You'll find Stage 3 development information on our home page.

As expected there has been minimal disruption to guests, and we thank all for their patronage during this time.

Vintage brings a whole new flavour! Don Juan at Voyager Estate

The inaugural 2005 'Vintage Festival Stomp' will herald the debut of new Margaret River theatre company, Noble Rot. Professional and ambitious, Noble Rot aims to provide a repertoire of stylish theatre for both local residents and visitors. From 29 April to 14 May on Friday and Saturday evenings at Voyager Estate, Noble Rot will present Molière’s comic classic, “Don Juan”. The character of Don Juan is world renowned - infamous sensualist and incorrigible seducer of women. What could better express the fertility of the season? “Don Juan” combines both wit and slapstick and this new translation/adaptation by Noble Rot’s internationally- recognised playwright, David George, exploits both.$75 including 3 course dinner. Bookings essential, contact 9757 6354

DOLPHINS in Koombana Bay, Bunbury are really doing their best to be seen. And we are doing our best to let our passengers see them! Every day we hear the familiar Ooohs, Aaahs and squeals of delight from our passengers as they are entertained by the large resident dolphin population. Think of some of the footage you have seen on television where dolphins are performing their antics. Then think of how fabulous it would be to see them leaping and diving in real life; and very close to you! Get organised and come dolphin watching with us. It will be a cruise you will remember for a long time.

SCUBA DIVING with Bay Dive (Swan Ship Wreck & Busselton Jetty)

Despite the recently unpredictable weather we have enjoyed some excellent diving on the Swan.Due to its sheltered placement in Geographe Bay we have avoided most of the disruption, and apart from a couple of days have been enjoying visibility of 15 meters plus.

We are repeating our special for the combined "Wreck & Nitrox specialities" with the special price of $650 (normally $720) until the end of the season, which has proved a very popular offer. We have had some very happy students on these course who got the chance to fully explore the Swan Wreck with the added benefits of extended bottom times on Nitrox (Enriched Air).
Our Swan Wreck and Busselton Jetty night dives are still appearing as a regular weekly night out. We've had some great sights down there, best of all being the huge schools (100's) of Samson fish circling the Crows nest. If you haven't experienced the Swan Wreck at night, give us a call to organise this fantastic night dive.
We have some great specials in store at the moment, our Probe Semi Dry suits are down to $399 from $599 and we still have a couple of Oceanic Titanium Semi Dry's at $250 (over 40% off). We are offering diving and accommodation packages and selected diving equipment on Barter card and as usual all our course are available to Barter card members.

Until next "Bugle", all the best, Dan Bish

WINO'S - DINNER WITH TELMO RODRIGUEZ -Thursday 21st April

Telmo Rodriguez is a leading figure of the modern Spanish wine scene - equivalent to the Barossa growers who resisted the vine-pull scheme in the 80s, and which lead directly to the international renaissance of old-vine Barossa shiraz. Similarly, Telmo stood in the breach during a time in Spain when modernising basically meant ripping out old-vine indigenous varieties (Tempranillo, Garnacha, Monastrell ...), and planting international varieties. Thankfully, Telmo stood up and proclaimed long and loud the shortcomings of this response; and demonstrated his point by snapping up some really great old, dry-grown bushvine plots of Tempranillo and other varieties. Since the mid-90s, these have resulted in a succession of outstanding modern wines realised from the best possible plantings of indigenous grape varieties. We're delighted to announce Telmo's forthcoming inaugural visit to Australia, accompanied by his importer, Scott Wasley of The Spanish Acquisition.

He is visiting Margaret River soon, and this is your invitation to meet and chat with Telmo while tasting Telmo's current vintages casually in the bar, and to then enjoy the top end and some back vintages over dinner at WINOS.

Tasting and nibbles in the bar, 5.30-7 (free of charge). Dinner, $75 per head from 7pm. (note: dinner places strictly limited) RSVP essential please to Mike Gadd at Winos, 9758 7155

SENSORY SENSATION @ CLAIRAULT- Autumn has brought an exciting new development at Clairault Restaurant with the launch of a new menu concept designed to create a sensory sensation and offer guests a broader selection of dining options. We can personally vouch for the variety and quality having dined their last weekend - just superb! The produce driven menu has moved away from the traditional entrée – main - dessert format, offering a variety of culinary pleasures that are uncomplicated yet flavoursome, merging international influences with some of WA’s finest ingredients. From Western Australian scallops, with avocado, sucuk and white gazpacho, to the thai influences experienced in the tom yum with crab wontons and oyster mushroom.

Also on offer is a selection of ‘mezze’ style dishes ($5 – $9.50) to savour as appetiser, or relish for the whole afternoon in the stunning surroundings of the vineyard. Although it’s not intended for these dishes to always be ‘Mediterranean’ in flavour, the mezze tradition is a pleasurable way to dine with friends.

Clairault’s continual achievement of excellence has been highlighted with the restaurant receiving an acclaimed Black Star rating by Australia’s Gourmet Traveller Best Restaurant Guide and voted in the top 5 most popular restaurants by SCOOP Readers (Autumn Edition 2005).Clairault restaurant is open for lunch from 12 noon to 3.30pm daily. Bookings recommended on 9755 6225 (ext 1)
